York Christmas Market, What’s on and When?  York is a magical place at Christmas with so many lovely things to see and do (have a look at our suggestions here!).

You don’t get more festive though than St Nicholas’ Fair, York’s Christmas Market. Running all the way along Parliament Street right down to St Sampson’s Square.

There are also stalls within the Shambles Market and in Coppergate.  York Christmas Market runs from the 16th November – 22nd December 2023.

Parliament Street is tree lined and all of the trees are festooned with Christmas lights, giving a pretty twinkling backdrop to the wooden Alpine chalet type market stalls.

My favourite is the stall selling hot chocolate to warm you up, and you can pay extra for a shot of Baileys in it too.

There are all sorts of wares sold, from Christmas decorations (my favourite) to leather goods, clothing and accessories.

York also attracts lots of delicious foody stalls, selling ranges of cheeses, chutneys and chilli jam! There are takeaway vendors too and the smells as you peruse the stalls is heavenly!

St Nicholas Fair – York Christmas Market

Thor’s Tipi has a new, second  location this year, in the Museum Gardens!  You will also find the usual one in the gardens of the Principal Hotel.  Here you can carouse like a Viking with lots of hot drinks and seasonal cocktails.

street-food at York Christmas MarketThey always run street-food alongside like Scandinavian sausages and loaded fries.  In the centre of the tipi there is a real fire you can gather around.

It’s a lovely warm haven (there are heaters as well as the fire) where you can relax amid the hustle and bustle of the shoppers in the Christmas market.

The Chocolate Circus

Another new addition to York’s Christmas Market, last year was the Chocolate Circus. The brainchild of the York based family behind Herbie’s Treehouse, look out for their Instagram-worthy loaded hot chocolates.

From giant snowman marshmallows to York printed wafers, there’s a topping for everyone including a full vegan hot chocolate alternative menu.

If you have children with you, you might want to visit the Santa’s Grotto in Coppergate.  There are lots more stalls in Coppergate next to the Jorvik Viking Centre too.

The Yorkshire Yuletide Village in The Guildhall

Last year you could find The Yorkshire Yuletide Village in The Guildhall.  It’s worth a visit just to see the inside of The Guildhall if nothing else, and there was a festive cafe to boot!
