Where are the best burger restaurants in York? We love all different styles of food. My favourite is Thai or Chinese, anything of an Asian persuasion really, but my husband loves a burger!
We’ve visited some great restaurants in York that do good burgers – I shall add more reviews and photos as soon as I can!
Hickory’s Smokehouse
Shipton Rd, Skelton, York YO30 1XJ
Hickory’s Smokehouse is a large family friendly restaurant just outside of the ring-road. They serve excellent American style Low and Slow BBQ food. The have a great outdoor space with a play area for the kids and an indoor cinema so you can enjoy your food in peace while they play.
They also served this magnificent ‘Go Big or Go Home’ burger.

Byron Burgers
11 High Ousegate, York YO1 8RZ
Byron is an American diner specialising in Hamburgers. “During a four-year stint in America, I ate enough hamburgers to sink the Titanic. My favourite diner was the Silver Top, in Providence, Rhode Island. I would end up there, late at night, frequently a little worse for wear, with two or three friends. We always ordered hamburgers. They were simple, tasty things – a bit messy, made with good quality meat and only the classic adornments: lettuce, tomato, red onion, and maybe a slice of cheese or bacon. The ultimate comfort food, and so satisfying in their simplicity.”
