Where are the best burger restaurants in York?  We love all different styles of food.  My favourite is Thai or Chinese, anything of an Asian persuasion really, but my husband loves a burger!  We’ve visited some great restaurants in York that do good burgers – I shall add more reviews and photos as soon as I can!

Bull & Co

58 Walmgate, York YO1 9TL

Bull & Co is a new American style burger and steak restaurant on Walmgate in York.  They serve good quality food in good sized portions.  Choose from onglet, rib-eye, sirloin or t-bone or from one of their seven signature burgers.  Loaded fries and milkshakes complete the nostalgic American vibe.

See what we thought when we visited Bull & Co here.

Oscar’s Wine Bar and Bistro

27 Swinegate, York YO1 8AZ

We have long been fans of Oscar’s Wine Bar and Bistro and have visited on and off for many years since the days when they were situated round the corner on Stonegate.  We visited recently for lunch and you can see that review here.  They have a good selection of burgers in its own ‘Speciality Burger’ section with everything from Plain Burgers to Cajun Blue and Bacon Burgers.  Here is one we tried:

Joe’s Kitchen

1-3 Coney Street, York YO1 9QL

We visited Joe’s Kitchen when it first opened.  It’s very central at the end of Coney Street.  It’s light and modern inside and great if you have kids with you too as they have a selection of games for them.  I like the sound of the Jalapeno And Emmental Burger.

No 88 Walmgate

88-96 Walmgate, York, YO1 9TL

No 88 Walmgate is the restaurant within the Indigo Hotel on (funnily enough) Walmgate.  Ever so slightly outside of the city centre, we enjoyed a good burger here a couple of years ago.  Classic food with a Yorkshire twist.

Byron Burgers

11 High Ousegate, York YO1 8RZ

Byron is an American diner specialising in Hamburgers.  “During a four-year stint in America, I ate enough hamburgers to sink the Titanic. My favourite diner was the Silver Top, in Providence, Rhode Island. I would end up there, late at night, frequently a little worse for wear, with two or three friends. We always ordered hamburgers. They were simple, tasty things – a bit messy, made with good quality meat and only the classic adornments: lettuce, tomato, red onion, and maybe a slice of cheese or bacon. The ultimate comfort food, and so satisfying in their simplicity.”
