Castle Howard at Christmas news! There will be a Bettys pop-up shop in the Castle Howard Stable Courtyard from 14th November 2024 – 5th January 2025.
Incidentally, if you don’t know – the Stable Courtyard is free to enter as it’s not part of the main house and gardens (though, I would recommend you go in anyway as it’s fabulous at Christmas!).
But if you just wanted to visit the Stables Courtyard I think this would make for a lovely day out on its own as you will find the farm shop and gift shop there too, not to mention that it’s beautifully decorated! Oh and you can also buy real Christmas trees from the Castle Howard garden centre!

Bettys to open their first ever pop-up shop at Castle Howard this Christmas
Castle Howard is hosting a pop-up Bettys shop in their historic Stable Courtyard this Christmas. Synonymous with Yorkshire and celebrated internationally, Bettys is known for mouthwatering confectionery, chocolates, teas and coffees and has never before created a pop-up shop.
The shop will be situated inside the stately home’s Stable Courtyard for the duration of their award-winning Christmas event. This week, Castle Howard announced that the 2024 Christmas theme will be ‘Alice’s Christmas Wonderland’, which will see the 300-year-old house transformed with installations, props, soundscapes and projections. Last year’s Peter Pan-themed event saw record-breaking visitor numbers.
The Bettys pop-up, alongside Castle Howard’s Farm Shop, Courtyard Café and Garden Centre, will also be open for customers who aren’t entering the Christmas event. Much-loved treats, including the famous Fat Rascals, fondant fancies, hampers and Christmas gifts, will all be available from the Bettys shop. A bespoke Alice-themed fancy will also be featured.
The Bettys pop-up shop is open 14th November 2024 – 5th January 2025, excluding 25th, 26th December and 1st January. Alice’s Christmas Wonderland runs 15th November 2024 – 5th January 2025, with a special preview day for Castle Howard Members on 14th November.
