Last weekend we stayed at Jollydays just outside of York near Stamford Bridge. It’s a beautiful glamping location with two different types of accommodation. They have Woodcutter’s Huts which are a bit like shepherd’s huts but bigger and they have Woodland Bothies.

Jollydays Glamping York Review

The woods are so peaceful and full of wildlife.  A very friendly, and quite tame squirrel (my son named him ‘Ben’, no idea why) spent quite a lot of time with us either running up trees (completely vertically) or jumping onto the deck to see what we were doing. We also had a friendly robin come and visit several times. It’s just a magical place!

Talking of magical, I shall describe what is in each bothy, but what you really need to see are the photos!  It’s utterly beautifully staged, so theatrical and otherworldly!  So much effort and artistry has gone into every detail.

We stayed in Queen Mab’s Bothy, which slept up to six with two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room. They come with their own kitchen equipped with a small fridge freezer, two-ringed gas hob, sink (with plentiful hot running water!) and all the cutlery, crockery and cookware you will need.

You have your own private (and huge) bathroom with a loo, shower and large roll top bath.

The main bedroom has a large double bed, and like the rest of the bothy it has marvellous theming. Just look at this magnificent bed!

The second bedroom is similarly large with twin beds that push together to form a double.

The living room also packs a punch in the wow factor stakes. There is a large and comfortable sofa which folds down into a sofa bed.

The sofa is positioned in front of the wood burning stove so you can just imagine how cosy, autumn and winter nights are!

In the corner of the room there is a table and chairs. But really if you are visiting during warmer weather it is outside that you will want to be.

There is a large wooden deck with another table and chairs, a sofa and barbecue. We barbecued on both nights that we were there.

The deck looks out into the completely private woods.

There is lots of space between each bothy or woodcutter hut, so it always feels very private. If you are travelling as a group or want to be a bit more sociable than we were, there is a communal fire pit surrounded by a comfortable sofas. I can imagine if you are travelling with friends then this will be a lovely thing to do on an evening. There is also a large open space there with picnic tables.

If you chose to stay in a woodcutters hut you get your own private bathroom within the bath house. Now, even if you are not staying in a woodcutters hut, do have a wander into the bath house as it’s a marvellous building. It feels very church-like but once you’re inside there are doors on either side of the building that lead to the private bathrooms. I never got to see in one of the private bathrooms but the building itself is fabulous!

Jollydays is a just 13 minute drive from the Grimston Bar Park and Ride on the outskirts of York.

If you stay at Jollydays for two nights or more, you get free entry into the Dreamery Gardens which is the most stunning fairy walk you will come across. I have reviewed this in full here. Oh, and the Dreamery Gardens have a cafe that you can visit (the cafe is as beautiful as the bothy).  They also do the most marvellous afternoon teas that I urge you to try. You can see our review of their afternoon tea here.

We were invited to visit and review Jollydays Glamping.  As always all my opinions are my own.
