The other day we tried Wine Stories for the first time. If you are not familiar with it, it’s a Greek restaurant on Parliament Street. It is run by Stam and Maria who also have Ambrosia Greek Street Food in the Shambles Market food court.

Wine Stories York Review
We have been wanting to go and review as we love Greek food. I don’t know why, but I don’t think that the outside looks as enticing as it could, and the name ‘Wine Stories’ does not immediately say Greek food to me. I don’t mean to be overly negative, I think I am trying to say that it could easily be overlooked because of these two things.

We had noticed a lunchtime offer in the window advertising various platters. (I have included a photo of it). The mixed grill platter was advertised at £15.99. Now again you might think I’m daft, but I wasn’t sure whether a platter was for one or two people, and it didn’t say! Obviously I was hoping it was for two as this seemed to be very reasonably priced. (If it had said ‘sharing platter’, obviously I would have known, but it just says ‘platter’.)
Does anyone else feel a little anxious trying new restaurants that you haven’t been to before, especially if they’re a smaller restaurant? Well that was us that day, but I put on my big girl pants and pushed the door open, and was very pleasantly surprised. It’s small but perfectly formed inside.
The ceiling is decorated with vines and festoon lights. At the back of the restaurant you will see an olive tree (nb. Don’t worry, I don’t think it’s a real olive tree, but it does give you a sense of Greece!).

Onto the food. We ordered the mixed grill platter and yes it is for two!! It comes with gyros, pork souvlaki, loukaniko (sausage with Feta), as well as salad, a lemon to squeeze, homemade tzatziki and what I think was tirokafteri, which is a spicy feta cheese dip (again feel free to correct me if I am wrong!). There were also chips and pita for dipping. A veritable lunchtime feast – all very hot and very tasty!

The bill for the platter, two soft drinks and included service came to £24.99 which I felt was excellent value and a perfect lunchtime treat!
