Last week we tried out the afternoon tea offering at the Hotel du Vin up on the Mount. It’s not a hotel I have been in before but I have to say it was lovely inside with lots of different and comfortable looking seating areas as well as a bar.
We were greeted very warmly by our server Michelle, she was friendly and cheerful to everybody she came into contact with and made us feel very welcome. She was also very accommodating when I asked for a specific table (my youngest prefers to be tucked away into a corner if possible). This space was ideal for us:
The afternoon tea at Hotel du Vin was priced at £29.95 per person, which compares very favourably to the other big hotels in York. The offering was very different too with some really interesting sandwiches in different forms of bread.
The sandwiches included chicken and tarragon Dijonnaise on pain d’epi, which was my absolute favourite and quite delicious.
Ham and Gruyère on mini croissants:
Severn & Wye smoked salmon and chive cream cheese on brioche roll which the teenagers went made for:
And ratatouille and vegan style feta on socca pancake. I have to say I would rather have had more of the chicken and tarragon, put perhaps I am a philistine!
Next we had plain and fruit scones with butter, jam and clotted cream. I liked the fact that we got butter as you don’t always with a cream tea.
Finally, the other big standout items were the cakes.
This layer consisted of Crème brûlée and Apple tarte tatin with Crème Normandie:
Valrhona “Nyangbo” pot au chocolat:
And La Profiterole with vanilla ice cream which was served with it’s own pot of chocolate sauce (absolutely save some room for this!).
If you are an afternoon tea fan, it’s a lovely one to try, delicious and different ingredients in a comfortable setting. I’ll leave you with the menu (but you can also find it on the website and it might be easier to read!
We were invited to visit and review the afternoon tea at Hotel du Vin. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
