Afternoon Tea at The Grand York Review

On each afternoon tea there is a selection of savoury items.  These include a sweet paprika croissant with egg, tarragon mayo and macerated golden raisins.  I was a little unsure of the combination but I thought it worked well.

There was also Yorkshire Brie, dried tomato and artichoke-almond pesto on sourdough bread.   Again, I was a little trepidous but really enjoyed it.

Or how about this Black Pudding Sausage Roll?

After your savoury course there are plain and sultana scones with strawberry jam, lemon curd and clotted cream.

Finally, there is the beautifully presented patisserie layer.

Here you will find Royal Battenberg Cake:

Mango Tartlet with tonka bean custard and burnt meringue.  I didn’t even know what a tonka bean was (Google it – interesting!).

Below you will see Chocolate Craquelin and Greek yoghurt cheesecake.  I liked the gold leaf on the Chocolate Craquelin but wasn’t as keen on the taste of cardamom inside it (not keen on cardamom – if you like it, you will love this!).

It was a really different afternoon tea into which a lot of thought has gone.  It’s also a great opportunity to try some flavours you may never have come across.  Not your average afternoon tea!

We were invited to visit and review this afternoon tea.  As always, all my opinions are my own.
