Last week we went along to Castle Howard to check out the sculptures in the gardens by Tony Cragg. Now, it has to be said that I am more of a book girl than an art fan, but I really enjoyed seeing them.

We were given a map of the house and grounds when we first arrived with all the locations on, then we began to wander. We started in the walled garden, even though there were no sculptures in here, I knew the gardens would be beautiful (and they were) besides, who doesn’t love a walled garden?

There are some lovely views in there and plenty of photo opportunities.

From the walled gardens we walked to the Atlas Fountain, which is beautiful in itself but also a great spot to take a photo of the house from.

As we approached the house, we came across our first sculpture.

This one isn’t a sculpture photo, but you can see what a beautiful day it was!

On the other side of the house you will find two huge sculptures. This white one looks amazing with the lake in the background.

But this mirrored one was my absolute favourite, look how beautiful this is!

While we were visiting we stopped for lunch at the Courtyard Cafe which I can completely recommend. We have reviewed our lunch here.

After lunch we took a tour of the house. I have been inside many times (we used to have a membership card) but more recently we have visited at Christmas so it was interesting to see the house without decorations. It was still beautiful of course, but I missed the Christmas decorations!

There were several sculptures inside the house.  Nothing like the huge ones outside but still fabulous.

Finally, I was pleased with this shot of a sculpture with the Castle Howard land train in the background.

We were invited on a press day to visit and review the new art exhibition at Castle Howard.  As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
