Forage serve “contemporary European cuisine cooked over fire”, using “locally sourced and foraged ingredients to add exciting, fresh, and eco-friendly flavours” to their menus.
We chose from the lunch time menu, but they have an a la carte menu, children’s menu and they serve Sunday lunch. The dishes are served as small plates, which are ideal for sharing.

Ambiente Tapas has lots of tapas, like ‘Salmon & smoked haddock croquettes served with a wild mushroom aïoli’, ‘Blue cheese & caramelised walnut stuffed portobello mushrooms’, ‘Triple cooked sagitta potatoes served with aïoli & spicy tomato sauce’, and ‘Ambiente baked focaccia bread served with olive oil & balsamic vinegar’.
They also do a chicken and chorizo and mixed seafood paella.
Pairings Wine Bar – Small Plates Menu

Pairings Wine Bar is tucked away on Castlegate behind the Coppergate Shopping area. It’s a lovely elegant place to eat and drink. They have several different wine flights as well as different wine and food pairing experiences. I have tried a wine and food pairing experience and it was fabulous.
They have a ‘Small Plates’ tapas section on their menu which includes things like Sundried tomato and basil hummus, duck rillette and hand carved Spanish Montanegra Iberico Bellota Ham.
Sotano Tapas Bar York

Sotano is an independent tapas bar and Spanish restaurant in York serving Mediterranean tapas plates and classically-inspired cocktails. Authentic with a modern twist, our food and drink is crafted by our well-travelled and technically astute team. New discoveries and seasons inspire our menus whether it is marinated grilled fish and meats, delicious tortillas or para picar (small nibbles) paired with trans-Atlantic craft beers and one-of-a-kind gins.
Sotano serve a meat selection of tapas, as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. They recommend their Pluma Ibérico – Ibérico pork with peppers and Pan Tumaca (Pa amb Tomàquet) – Bread rubbed with garlic, topped with fresh tomato, olive oil, topped with Ibérico Bellota Jamon.

Sip our Taverna style drinks, travelled from Spain, Greece and Turkey at Zills. The likes of Mythos, Efes & Estrella. Your favourites such as Tzatziki, Humous, feta pastry rolls, not forgetting organic lamb all in one place!
The Tapas Small Plates menu includes a large vegetarian selection with items such as Potato Manchengo – Creamy Maris Pipers, with tomato based caramelised onions and red bell pepper sauce, oven cooked with Spanish Manchengo Cheese and Baked Honey Goat Cheese – Fresh honey Goats cheese topped with Spanish Honey, oven cooked, served with simit (Turkish Bagel). or you could try Arabic Tava – Minced lamb in a rich tomato onion sauce, flavoured with Middle Eastern herbs, served on crusty bread, or Fresh Unshelled Mussels – Fresh Atlantic unshelled mussels, tossed in a pan with parsley, garlic butter & pomodore tomato sauce served on crusty bread (it’s also gluten free).
