I have been to Pairings a few times now (great for just before a show at the Grand Opera House) and have always had a lovely time. If you don’t know where it is, it’s on Castlegate next to Rustique and a stone’s throw from the Jorvik Viking Centre.  We were invited to visit and review the new Sharing Board offering, which is great value and a nice antidote to the post Christmas blues!

A Sharing Board at Pairings York Review

It’s not a huge place but does go back quite a long way and in the summer they have cafe tables outside. It’s cosily decorated so it is a nice comfortable place to visit in the winter too.

A Sharing Board at Pairings York Review

We visited on Tuesday of last week on a freezing cold January day and decided to try the sharing board.  Alongside a nice glass of Cava too!

Pairings York Review

The sharing board is for two people and priced at £25.  It includes Haxby sourdough, oil and balsamic vinegar, chutney, crackers and cornichons, but then you can personalise it to your own tests by choosing five extra items from a charcuterie and a cheese list.  Have a look at what is on offer below:

After a brief bit of discussion we decided on Lishman’s roast ham, smoked chicken breast, Kit Calvert (handcrafted old-style Wensleydale cheese with a buttery, and especially creamy texture), Gorgonzola Dolce (a soft, creamy Italian blue cheese with a mild, sweet flavour) and Delice de Bourgogne (a soft, rich, and creamy French cheese made from cow’s milk and crème fraîche).

I can recommend all of these choices, but will always encourage you to go for the Delice de Bourgogne as it is absolutely divine!  The creamy cheese of dreams!

Pairings has a comfortable and relaxed yet stylish vibe and is always a pleasure to visit.  They also offer other wine and food pairings, which is a lovely thing to do too.

We were invited to visit and review, but as always, all opinions are my own.
