Yesterday we were invited along to The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring. It’s a new attraction opened on Merchantgate opposite the Red Lion pub. (Does anyone else direct people using pubs as landmarks or does that reflect really badly on me?!).

The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring location

Just so you don’t get confused like I did – it is the exit that is opposite the Red Lion pub whereas the entrance is just around the corner. But you’ll work it out!

The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring - Review

You do need to book or at least go along to be given a time-slot as entry is limited in order to space out visitors so that it does not get too busy at any one point (as that would spoil your fun!).

You will be welcomed into the attraction and given an introductory speech before being allowed to then enter and wander around as much as you like.

The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring review

There are lots of exhibits inside from small optical illusions and puzzles to larger rooms that provide perfect photo opportunities – speaking of which, there are professional cameras which you can pay for (prices below). They are also happy for you to use your smartphone to take your own photos (which is what I did).

If it’s a little busy when you first go in, walk around a little because there might be areas that are quieter and then when you come back to the initial room it won’t be as busy (useful but obvious tip, I know – my point is that you don’t need to do everything in number order!).

I won’t give too many spoilers but I will show you some of the photographs we took which were our favourite rooms.  There were a couple of fun upside down rooms.  There are helpful staff wandering around that will help you with your photos too – whether using the professional cameras or on your own smart phone.

If you do this one and have long hair – think about making it fall in the right direction…!  We particularly liked this illusion, making my lanky teenage son look all small!

I would say you are looking to spend around 45 minutes for the attraction. It’s a fun thing to do with family – if you have ever done Ripley’s Believe it or not, and enjoyed it, then you will enjoy The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring.

Save some pennies for the obligatory gift shop at the end of the attraction. I have to say though that there are some more pocket money priced items than I expected, which came as a nice relief!

We were invited to visit and review – as always all opinions are my own.
