We recently visited MASA in Boston Spa. It’s a South American inspired steak restaurant specialising in steaks from rare breed cattle.
It is a cosy and intimate restaurant and bar in the lower ground floor of the (quirkily named) Tom Foolery pub. There are just two rooms, the lights are kept low and each table glows with its own tealight.
I had seen MASA on Facebook where they have a very impressive 55k followers. So, when the opportunity came up to review them I was thrilled.
They serve small plates as well as wood-fired-grill steaks, but we wanted to go all out and try the steak sharing board, a real showstopper of a dish!
It includes 8oz of fillet, 8oz of sirloin, and 8oz of rib-eye!
Now, usually with these things there is one part of the meal you like more than the others, but I can – hand on heart – say that I loved everything about this dish. The three different steaks were perfectly cooked at our preferred level (medium). Alongside these, I loved the hot honey Parmentier potatoes (in fact, I am going to give these a try at home). Oh and fabulous pink peppercorn butter.
On top of the steaks there were roasted cherry tomatoes on the vine, and (I think) cooked and pickled red onions.
Served alongside there are skin on fries (perfect for dipping in the birria beef gravy, which was absolutely delicious!).
I am also a fan of a Caesar salad so loved this one:
It was certainly a huge treat. Lots of different flavours and aspects that all worked together really well.
It’s definitely one to try and just a half hour drive from York. They are currently open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Let me know if you try it!
We were invited to visit and review, but as always, all opinions are my own.
