Last night saw us returning to The Grand Opera House for “NOW That’s What I Call A Musical”. It’s a vibrant stage production that takes audiences back to the 1980s through some cracking classic hits from the era.
The musical centres on two best friends attending a school reunion, intertwining their personal stories with iconic 80s tracks. The audience loved the music and you could see everyone doing ‘theatre seat dancing’, jiggling away to their favourite 80s tunes! At the end of the show everyone was out of their seats and dancing joyously though!
You will know all the songs from: Gold, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Tainted Love, Hey Mickey, and Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves. Choreography was done by Strictly Come Dancing‘s Craig Revel Horwood.
There is a brilliant guest appearance by Sinitta herself, singing her classic So Macho to look forward to too.
It’s fun, frothy and shamelessly nostalgic, but has a deeper message about friendship and family that will ensure you come out of the theatre with a warm feel-good glow!

It’s Birmingham, 1989. Two school friends, Gemma and April, are busy with very important business – planning their lives based on Number One Magazine quizzes and dreaming of snogging Rick Astley. Cut to Birmingham 2009 and it’s the most dreaded event of their lives– the school reunion. Drama, old flames and receding hairlines come together as friends reunite and everything from the past starts to slot into place. The biggest question is: what was with all that hairspray?
