Bang Hair on Bishy Road, York, Review – This weekend I took my daughter (who is 11) to Bang Hair on Bishy Road (5 Bishopthorpe Road, York YO23 1NA).  It was our first visit but I had heard good things about Bang.  It’s not a huge salon but you can tell how popular it is by the number of stylists and how busy they all were.

Bishy Road, if you haven’t been, is a lovely, vibrant high street with a mix of shops and restaurants and pavement cafes.  I used to live in South Bank, so know it well, but it’s so much more cosmopolitan than it used to be.  The only down side to Bishy Road is that parking can be a little on the tricky side.  We visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon and both the Bishy Road shoppers car park (just 50p for an hour’s parking) and nearby Nunnery Lane car park were full.

I circled round in a panicky ‘I’m going to be late’ fashion for a while, looking for parking, but quickly realised that all the nearby streets are (quite rightly, of course) resident permits only.  On my second attempt I managed to bag a spot in the shopper’s car park just a few steps away from Bang.  The moral of the story is – leave plenty of time to find a parking space.  In fact, go extra early, make an afternoon of it and have a wander round the lovely shops, then stop for a coffee before your appointment!

So – how did we get on at Bang?  I was nervous because it was the first time my daughter had had her hair cut and she was going from a long cut to a pixie cut.  Kacey was our stylist.  She discussed what style my daughter wanted and looked at the pictures she had brought in, while also scrolling through Pinterest on her phone to add to the ideas presented.  She was very friendly and upbeat, and put me at my ease.  As a graduate stylist, the charge for under 13’s was just £17 which was extremely reasonable as we were there some time.  Looking through the rest of the price list I would say that the prices as a whole are very competitive with other York salons.

Would I recommend them?  Yes, I would.  Everyone I came into contact with were friendly and accommodating and put me at my ease – and most importantly – my daughter loves her hair!
