Yesterday, on one of the hottest days of the year, we had the pleasure of trying out the new Taittinger Champagne Terrace at The Principal, York. It’s an outdoor terrace on the station side, but it is surrounded by high walls and flowers so there is a nice feeling of seclusion.
There are lots of parasols to keep off the sun if you are fortunate enough to have a day like the one we had.
There is also, unusually, a branded Taittinger bath filled with balls. I can see it being very tempting to get in there for an Instagram shot, if a) you could do it elegantly and get out again, and b) you didn’t get thrown out of the hotel for doing so!
We tried out the Champagne Flight. You receive three glasses of different styles of Taittinger Champagne for the price of £25. A perfect girls’ afternoon or a prelude (or sequel) to a day at the races.
We were given these cards, and given the choice of having all three Champagne’s served at once or separately. It was a windy, as well as hot day, so we opted to have them served individually, but I think all three lined up on the card would have made a great photo!
We began our flight with a glass of Taittinger Brut Réserve NV, then tried a glass of the Taittinger Brut Prestige Rosé NV.
We finished on the Taittinger Noctern Sec NV. All, as you can imagine, were delicious. If I had to choose, I would say the first and last were my favourites. Rosé is pretty but I prefer white.
