Places to go Strawberry Picking in York – it’s an annual tradition for us to go strawberry picking. In fact we sometimes do it a couple of times over the season.
If you are taking kids though, make sure you limit how many strawberries they pick otherwise you will have to pay out a small fortune! It’s a lovely activity to do on a summer’s day though.
If you are going to be picking in polytunnels, make sure you wear layers as it gets hot in there (perfect for the strawberries – not so good for you!). Have a look at our list of places to go strawberry picking near York.
Do check that the venue is open before you visit – a couple of places we used to list have closed down, so the list is quite small. Let me know if you discover any new places!
The Balloon Tree, York

The Balloon Tree is one of the closest places to strawberry pick near York. They sell other produce too, have a fabulous farm shop, excellent café and a children’s play area. They do a fine breakfast and marvellous cakes – depending on when you plan to visit, so if you are clever, plan to visit when you can handily fit a meal in too!
Spilmans – Strawberry Picking York
Church Farm, Sessay, THIRSK, YO7 3NB
Spilman’s is a bit further out, but a good choice if you are North of York. Open from June to August, as well as PYO strawberries they have a farmshop and café.
