Yesterday we visited JJ’s Bar and Kitchen at Allerthorpe Country Park and Golf Club for the first time. It’s around a 25-30 minutes drive from the centre of York, and set in a beautiful location. The first thing you notice as you arrive is the fantastic outdoor restaurant area. In fact there are two distinct areas. Firstly there are lots of tables just outside the restaurant itself in a courtyard space. Then further out in a lovely grassy area surrounded by trees, there are more tables and chairs.
Inside is just as nice, modern and stylish.
The menu is extensive and has some more unusual items on there. As well as pizzas and burgers, there are hot dogs, 12 hour smoked ribs and Asian street food style dishes. We ordered the Brisket Chilli Dog – 12 hr Smoked Brisket Low & Slow, Spicy Chilli & Pepper Jack Monterey Cheese, Fries & Slaw.
And the Jordanian kebab, which is a new dish to the menu but had beef, chicken and lamb, spicy rice and salad on a freshly made garlic naan (which was delicious!).
The restaurant is dog friendly, and there were lots of dogs outside in the beer garden. Nearby Allerthorpe Woods are a popular spot for dog walking and I can imagine many of the walkers come to JJ’s afterwards for lunch or a drink in their sunny garden.
JJ’s also have luxury lodges with hot tubs that you can hire – it really is a perfect location for the lodges and I have to say the restaurant is really a star attraction for them as they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
A bit further along the same road is Allerthorpe Lake where you can paddleboard, kayak or hire pedalos. It’s another great place for walking dogs and even better to take the kids to burn off some energy. Or if you/they are feeling adventurous you could try their Aquapark. They also have a children’s playground.
