Last year we reviewed the Fish and Chips Cruise on the Ouse with City Cruises. We loved the fish and chips they served and were pleased to find out they were from Mr Chippy on Church Street as we have had lots of chips from there in the past!
Mr Chippy has tables upstairs. It’s not a full service restaurant, more of a cosy place you can eat your takeaway, which is a massive bonus if it is raining! This means that you just pay takeaway prices rather than restaurant prices!
Whilst I am talking prices, I have to say that Mr Chippy’s prices compare very favourably to other fish and chip places in the city. Especially with their bundle deals. I’ll share some of the pictures I took of the main menu to begin with, but you can find the full menu on their website:
They also do a selection of specials and ‘lite bites’:
This is one we will definitely do next time – jumbo sausage, chips, mushy peas, gravy or curry and a can for £7.99.
In the summer there are pavement cafe style tables outside too so you can sit and watch the world go by! They also offer a gluten-free menu as well as large vegan menu. As it was a dry day, we opted to take our chips away with us and we headed up to Dean’s Park next to the Minster. You can often find a quiet park bench there and the views don’t get any better than the Minster!
We also tried the Steak Pie and chips!
I went a little off-piste with some jalapeno poppers (maybe not the most photogenic of dishes, but they tasted great!)
While we were in the shop, we met up with Andy who owns Mr Chippy:
He talked to us about their various ventures including their work with The Snappy Trust, providing local children and young adults with disabilities Christmas boxes and Easter eggs.
My Chippy is an excellent option for a quick lunch. It’s good to note that they are also on Deliveroo too (which is where I first came across them many years ago!).
We were invited to visit and review, but as always, all opinions are my own.
