Café 21 York is a stylish but relaxed restaurant within Fenwick in the Coppergate Arcade.
They serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as having a dedicated vegan menu and doing Sunday Lunch!
We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime, and it was pleasantly busy (by which I mean not over-crowded but with enough people to give it a good atmosphere).
On that note, we were seated in a pretty, plush pink booth, which was very comfortable. There is plenty of space around tables too which helps the airy and relaxed vibe.
They have a great breakfast/brunch selection. We tried their Croque Madame:
As well as lighter dishes like this Risotto of Spring Peas and Yorkshire Blue Cheese.
I tried the minute steak which was perfectly cooked to my taste. It was excellently seasoned by the addition of the peppercorn butter (garlicky deliciousness!).
I chose to upgrade my regular fries to truffle and parmesan fries and these were also light and tasty.
For dessert, we all plumped for the traditional desserts from the Jubilee special menu. I started the ball rolling with this very pretty Sherry Trifle:
While my guests chose the very Summery Pimms Jelly, English Strawberries and Spearmint:
And the Steamed Lemon Syrup Sponge with Thick Cream. She said it was very syrupy!
It was a lovely lunch and a great place to catch up with friends. They do have an excellent Patisserie and Dessert section if you are just wanting a coffee and cake in the afternoon too.
We were invited to visit and review our lunch. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
