We had a really busy weekend, starting with a brilliant ‘coached session’ of axe-throwing at The Hilt on Goodramgate.  We had a member of staff assigned to us throughout our hour’s slot.  After we had been given the safety briefing, he explained how the session would go.

Initially there was a warm up session where we were taught where to stand and how to throw the axes.  Then, once everyone had had a few goes we moved onto a friendly (if fierce!) competition.

Our guide (I am so sorry as I didn’t make a note of his name!) was fabulous –  fun and friendly and made us feel at ease.  He explained the scoring (and more importantly) kept score for us.  Every so often a new rule or penalty was introduced just to keep things fun.  After each round the scores were announced and we could see who was winning!

At the end of the session we were able to make trick shots (such as throwing two axes at once!).

There is plenty of room to watch your opponents play with plenty of Viking hats to take amusing selfies with for social media purposes!

Do book ahead as it’s very popular and was busy the day we were there.  It’s a great idea for groups of friends, stag or hen nights.  In factshow there was a cowboy themed hen night in at the same time as us, complete with a blow up doll!

It’s important to note that only closed toe shoes were allowed and absolutely no alcohol (though you can make sure to have plenty of time after for this if you wish!).  You can buy soft drinks though.

We had a brilliant time, and we crowned Mel (in the throne) the winner (by miles!).

It’s a great place to get lots of group shots of the whole gang!

Oh and there are some fun games to play in the foyer, like shuffleboard and coits.

We were invited to attend for the purposes of this review – as always all opinions are my own.
