There are lots of Italian restaurants in York as you can imagine. From independent family run businesses to the big chains, York has them all.
Here are a few suggestions of Italian Restaurants to get you started.
Pranzo Italian

Pranzo is a new Italian restaurant opened on Church Street. It’s a gorgeous and elegant restaurant serving Italian food like Nonna used to make! As well as traditional Italian dishes they also serve an excellent Sunday lunch.
We visited Pranzo recently for Sunday lunch, you can read that review here.

Enoteca by L’UVA
5 Bridge St, York YO1 6DD
If you like cosy Italian restaurants (and you haven’t already been) then Enoteca on Bridge Street should be one you put on your list. It’s an independent family run restaurant, and so much bigger than it looks from the outside! There are a series of snug rooms over three floors, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
We visited Enoteca for dinner, you can read that review here.

Little Italy

Little Italy is a family-run Italian restaurant and deli, and has been a hidden gem of the city since it opened its doors in 1992. It’s a lovely spot that makes you feel as if you are dining out in Italy!

La Vecchia Scuola, York

La Vecchia Scuola is set in a beautiful building. From their website:

A long standing independent restaurant in York, Delrio’s Restaurant is located adjacent to Micklegate Bar, the Royal entrance to the City of York and just five minutes walk from York train station.

Lucia is a large Italian restaurant and wine bar in the centre of York close to The Minster.
They have lots of floor space including an outdoor heated courtyard, perfect for the warmer months.

Ask Italian in York
The Grand Assembly Rooms, Blake Street, York, YO1 8QG
Ask is a big chain that has reliably good food. What makes it special in York though is the building it is in – The Grand Assembly Rooms. Think the ballroom from Beauty and the Beast and you get the general idea.
From the website: ‘Book a table in The Grand Assembly Rooms, built almost 300 years ago in the Palladian style of architecture, and you’ll be eating in a stunning setting beneath chandeliers and surrounded by Corinthian columns.
Where else will you sample authentic Italian cuisine in a room with such impressive architectural heritage?’ Oh and it’s close to the York Theatre Royal too.
The Olive Tree
10 Tower St, York YO1 9SA Tel: 01904 624433
The Olive Tree has a great location with a fantastic view of Clifford’s Tower. The menu is centred on seasonal ingredients drawing inspiration from the South of France, Italy, and the Mediterranean. Locally sourced game, lamb, and beef from Yorkshire.
The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and is popular with celebrities visiting the Barbican Centre (and is a good choice to pair with a show there or at The Grand Opera House).
