Last weekend we were lucky enough to go along to ‘Vino Latino – A Taste of South America’ a wine tasting session with the fabulous Emma – The Wine Lady.

We were there to learn about and try out six premium South American wines in a fun and informal atmosphere.  We tried a glass of fizz to start with, followed by two whites and three reds.

The event was in a private room in SPARK York which was very cosy with the table dressed in greenery and candlelight.

To soak up all the wine, the table was laden with breads, crackers, tortilla chips and breadsticks.  Emma also paired some fab cheeses to the wines, such as Brie, a Goat’s cheese and a fine aged Cheddar.

Emma is great fun and talks about wine and the wine tasting regions in a humorous and relatable way.  There was a tasting scoresheet and aroma wheel to guide you as well as a mini quiz at the end.  (Spoiler – we came last in the quiz, the wine had kicked in by that point!).

There were around 13 of us in total, everyone was happy to be there and made for a great sense of camaraderie as we chatted while sharing wines.  Some were York folk out for the evening, while others were just visiting York for the weekend like this lovely couple who were sat opposite us from Newcastle.

Emma is fabulous, a born entertainer and a real hoot!  This is a perfect night out or makes an excellent gift for friends.  Follow Emma on Facebook to see when her next tasting will be.

We were invited to come along to the wine tasting for the purpose of this review – as ever all my opinions are my own.
