On the day that we visited The Potions Cauldron, we also visited The Hole in Wand. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, it’s a wizard themed mini golf attraction in the centre of York opposite the Jorvik Centre on Coppergate.
When I say themed, I mean, like fabulously themed! There are nine holes in total over two floors. Each hole is very different from the last and it’s great fun to play but really it’s the marvellous theming that makes it so special.
When you enter the attraction, you are welcomed by a wizard who has a chat to your party before you start. You get to choose a quill to write your scores with and you get to choose your own coloured golf ball (choose wisely, as each colour means something different!).
Before you play you can have photos taken with various accessories which is great fun and the photos can be bought at the end of your game. Anyone scoring a hole-in-one during the game also gets their own badge.
Oh, and keep your eye out for mystery letters on each hole (it’s a good one to get the kids to do). At the end, you can enter your magic word which then goes into a draw to win a free game!
There are different types of tickets for entry so do have a look at what is the best value for you. We went for a family of four ticket which included a drink and a slice of cake or a chocolate frog in the cafe when you had finished.
If your kids are into Harry Potter then this really is an excellent activity to do in York and pairs well with The Potions Cauldron which is run by the same people who are local to York. In fact, one of the founders, Ben Fry is our local Town Crier.
At the end of your game you are given a choice of potion to take away.
We were invited to visit and review – as always all opinions expressed are my own.
