If you are a steak or seafood fan then don’t miss the new restaurant opened at No. 1 York,  Pearly Cow.   You can look forward to the best locally sourced produce from the farm and the sea.  The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and was surprisingly lively for a Monday evening, with lots of happy diners.  I am terribly nosy and listened to the table behind us talking to their server.  When they use phrases like ‘sensational’ and ‘amazing’, you know they are happy!

Pearly Cow York Review

While on the subject of the serving staff, I have to say they were lovely.  They were welcoming and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble.  They talked us through the menu confidently and made suggestions where appropriate.  We felt very looked after during our meal.

We started our meal with items from the ‘Snacks’ menu – salt cod taco, parsley mayonnaise and preserved lemon.

We also tried Garlic-baked oyster with Wensleydale cheese.  I am more of a steak girl than seafood, but my friend loved these.

For our main courses, my friend chose to have half a grilled Scottish lobster, with charred lemon and alioli, which she enjoyed immensely.

While I chose my favourite steak – a 45-day salt-aged 12oz Ribeye, served with a peppercorn sauce, glazed Roscoff onion and bone marrow.  This was excellent, perfectly cooked and flavoursome.

We added a side of Beef fat chips (my friend said they were the ‘best chips I’ve ever had’).

As well as some Charred greens, with fried bread and confit shallot.

We finished with a glorious Blackberry and lemon baked Alaska for two!

It was a top notch meal in lovely surroundings with great staff.  We have eaten at No. 1 York before when we tried their Afternoon Tea, so I was expecting good things, and I was not disappointed!

Pearly Cow serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as Sunday dinner and a seafood version of afternoon tea – Afternoon Sea.

We were invited to dine and review the menu at Pearly Cow.  As always, all opinions expressed are our own.
