Moxy Hotel York Review – we recently stayed at the Moxy hotel in York.  It’s a great location on Stonebow/Peasholme Green, right next door to The Black Swan pub –  a five minute walk from the Shambles, so really very central.  It’s slightly set back from the road, and whilst it does not have its own parking, the Q-Park multi-storey is a 3 minute walk away, it’s very secure and you can leave your car there overnight.

I have used a mix of official photos and my own photos in this review.  The official ones completely accurately reflect when it is actually like there – they are just better quality than my own.  You can play spot the difference in the photos below!

Moxy York Review

Moxy is a modern, vibrant brand.  There is a bar on the ground floor with a very social space.   On the evening we visited (a Friday night) there was a popular looking pub quiz, which I would definitely take part in another time.

What better way to spend a winter’s evening than a game of chess in front of the fire (with cocktails!).

I also saw a large Jenga set and table football as well as lots of books and magazines lying around.

There are spaces that will accommodate groups and more private nooks for couples.

As the artwork above suggests, they have a very attractive beer garden with benches and lots of pretty festoon lights strung high above.

Food and drink is available 24/7 in the bar.  Plenty of canned/bottled drinks as well as snacks like crisps and chocolate too.

The Rooms at Moxy York

Our room, like the rest of the hotel was bright, modern and immaculately presented.  There is a 42″ flatscreen smart TV with Freeview.  The hotel provides free wi-fi too so you can happily cast your fave Netflix series to the TV while you lounge on the bed.  There are plenty of USB ports to charge all your devices (essential for us), hairdryer and a kettle with tea and coffee etc.  The bathroom comes with shower and loo, and MUK products.

The beds are king-size and ours had a cool nightlight, when you stepped out of bed it lit up the floor around its base so you can see where you are going for your 3am wee and not wake your other half!  Genius.  We had this room on the second floor with this amazing view along St Saviour’s Place up to the Minster.  Also, see that chair in the picture?  VERY comfy!

The following day we popped down to the reception area for the breakfast buffet.

There is everything you would like from bacon/sausages/beans and scrambled eggs under the hot plates, to cheese and cooked meats in the continental section.

There were cereals, juice and yoghurt, fruit and pastries too.  Oh and toast!  There there was a good help-yourself coffee machine.

The hotel is dog friendly – I spotted a couple of canine guests.   It also has a gym and an ironing room (I didn’t venture in either!).

The Moxy is a great, modern hotel perfect for travellers wanting a lively, sociable hotel experience.

Although we live locally, we were invited to stay at the Moxy and as I want to be able to recommend hotels from personal experience, we jumped on the chance to stay.  You can book the Moxy Hotel either direct or through Booking.com.
