Hooting Owl Distillery opened over Easter on Rougier Street (where Society/Macmillans used to be). They distill their (fabulous) gin on the premises, and offer Distillery Tours and Gin Tasting (sounds like my kind of thing!).
The Distillery is viewable through glass from the bar itself. Speaking of which, the bar itself is beautiful. Lots of comfortable seating and just chock-a-block full of quirky details!
Huge comfy armchairs and chesterfield sofas give off a classic Gentleman’s Club vibe. It’s somewhere you can just take a breather and relax!
There are two large bar lounges and then a large space in front of the bar for when you can’t manage to bag yourself a sofa (or want to stand showing off your best togs!). It’s worth noting that although Hooting Owl don’t do food yet (they are planning to soon) you can book a table now, to make sure you get your own cosy spot.
Upstairs you will find another gorgeous room that can be hired for private parties and is set to become a private members club.
The bar itself is very well stocked with lots of different Hooting Owl gins.
My favourites are the Rhubarb Gin and the Raspberry Gin.
Now, I can’t speak for the gents loos but the ladies’ have these fabulous thrones which will be very popular for selfies and photo opportunities. (Perfect Insta/TikTok fodder!). The photo does not really give a decent indication of how large they are.

Tickets are £11 each and capped at a total of 2000 tickets. All proceeds will be going to York RLFC Foundation, St Leonard’s Hospice and Veterans Causes.
