Social8 is a lovely lounge bar that serves food on High Ousegate in York. It is right next door to Ate O’Clock and is run by the same people. I have walked past many times and it always looks so inviting, especially when it is all lit up on an evening, but this is the first time we have managed to visit. The below photo is from last November, so you can see how pretty it is from the outside on an evening.
I have to say that it is equally pretty inside, with gorgeous lighting and decor. The seating is comfy too and perfect for a social gathering.
Social8 is a bit of a Tardis and is surprisingly large, going back a long way as well as having a courtyard garden.
I visited with two of my besties and we had a fabulous Boozy Brunch. It’s boozy rather than bottomless as the number of drinks are fixed to six (three glasses of Prosecco and three cocktails) but to be fair, six drinks in 90 minutes is probably enough!
Before I go into detail of what we tried, I must mention how fabulous the staff were. They were just very personable and welcoming and made our visit great fun! We even got a selfie with them at the end (and they were happy to take photos for us too).
Right – back to what we ordered! We started off proceedings with a round of cocktails. You can see below a Rhubarb Cooler (the pretty pink drink), an Aperol Spritz (very popular these days) and a Pornstar Martini along with it’s shot of Prosecco.
Talking of Prosecco, we later moved on to this. I always get a kick out of having a raspberry in my glass (I know, I am sad like that, but it’s the little things!).
The food was really good and plentiful too. You could order a main course as well as a side. My friends tried the Open Mozarella and Tomato sandwich:
As well as the Croque Madame:
I went for the Hash Brown Stack with chorizo & chipotle mayo which was lovely.
Then for sides we went for these excellent hand-cut chunky chips:
We also ordered this huge pile of onion rings:
All in all, a fab day out and one I would recommend, a nice relaxed and elegant boozy brunch (though we became less elegant as the day went on, but a fabulous way to start!)
We were invited to visit and review the boozy brunch. As always, all opinions are my own.
