York has some amazing shops if you are looking for interior design inspiration. For fabulous curtains, you could check out Fabric Gallery and Interiors, based on York Street in Dunnington. They hold swatches of thousands of different fabric designs and will make the curtains to your specification.  Classic examples are Romo’s Linara collection, Designers Guild’s Varese velvet collection and Linwood’s Omega velvet collection.

Wallpaper is really making a comeback in interiors.  I love Hattie Lloyd on Blake Street for their lovely floral and bee motif wallpapers.  You could also try Elaine Johnson Fabrics & Interiors, again on Clifton Moor.

Otherwise take a look at another York firm, Plaskitt & Plaskitt.  You can buy soft furnishings and accessories from them or employ them to create or even project manage a design for you.  From a complimentary consultation to a full in home visit and design.

When it comes to flooring and carpets then have a look at Flooring Superstore at Monks Cross.  They do an excellent range of carpets in every colour imaginable.  They have plain, patterned, soft or sisal carpets.  I particularly like the tartan ones  If carpets are not your thing, then they also do vinyl or laminate.  They even do artificial grass!

If you are looking to upgrade your lighting then Barnitts on Colliergate is definitely worth a visit.  Barnitts is a veritable Aladdin’s cave and has been around as long as I can remember.  They have a huge and surprisingly modern lighting section and do garden lighting as well as home lighting.  I like a nice chandelier in the dining room and fairy lights in the garden!

There are several sofa companies in York and these tend to be found on the out of town shopping centres like Clifton Moor or Monks Cross.  You can try Sofology  or Furniture Village at Clifton Moor, or John Lewis or Rodgers of York at Monks Cross.

Whatever you are looking for interior design-wise, York has everything you need!
