Bridget Jones’s Diary
Following the adventures of a mischievous journalist from London in 2025 is just as funny as it was in 2001, even though the realities of the film seem a little outdated now (fortunately, few people today are embarrassed by being single at 32 and weighing 65 kilograms). However, many of us still make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthy, quit smoking, start going to the gym, find a better job, and stop dating the wrong people.
This is what happened to the main character in this film. Incidentally, the twists and turns of the love story between Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) and Mr Darcy (Colin Firth) begin and end around Christmas: they meet in a British village at a party hosted by their parents (both dressed in ugly Christmas jumpers), and the climactic explanation takes place during a rare snowfall in London exactly one year later.
Incidentally, it is easy to deduce that Bridget lives in The Globe pub, located near Borough Market, while the main characters’ parents’ homes are in Snowell (Gloucestershire), and the final scene was filmed near the Royal Exchange building, opposite the Bank of England — just in case you feel like following in Miss Jones’ footsteps after watching the film.
Notting Hill
Hugh Grant also appeared in this romantic comedy (and what British rom-com would be complete without him!). However, this time he does not play the antagonist-womaniser, but a thoroughly positive character — an intelligent bookshop owner who falls in love with Hollywood actress Anna (Julia Roberts).
Despite the fact that these two are from completely different worlds, it suddenly turns out that they actually have a lot in common, for example, their views on art and, equally important, relationships. However, before reaching a happy ending, the young people still have to go through a series of trials: without this, it would not be interesting. London and the Notting Hill area are shown in such an attractive light in the film that Anna’s decision to stay here forever is certainly not in doubt.

Stardust
A fantasy tale based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, the film manages to be a melodrama, an action movie, a thriller, a comedy, and even a bit of a burlesque show with costume changes. This is the story of Tristan, a modest young man who was a failure in his own world and became a hero after arriving in the mysterious Stormhold. He must save the beautiful fallen star Yvaine from bloodthirsty witches and find out who is the rightful heir to the kingdom.

The male lead is played by renowned English actor Matthew Goode (Brideshead Revisited, Guardians, Downton Abbey).
Mrs Harris Goes to Paris
This hilarious, witty, touching and insanely beautiful film tells the story of a simple British widow, Mrs Ada Harris. She works as a cleaner, but that doesn’t stop her from falling madly in love with a couture dress by Dior and travelling to Paris in search of it. It’s not hard to guess that not only a dress awaits the woman, but also amazing adventures; by a twist of fate, she will even play an important role in the fate of her beloved fashion house.
This is the third film adaptation of Paul Gallico’s 1958 novel Mrs Harris Goes to Paris. The leading roles are played by Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert and Jason Isaacs, and the film was shot in Budapest, London and Paris.
